ORGAN RECITAL

Tho organ recital given by the city organist (Mr. Bernard F. lags) m the Town Hall last night was the second since the dny of the weekly recital was altered from Saturday to AAedncsdaj. The attendance was very small again, and it appears that the regular patrons have not yet accustomed themselves to tho change. Tho organist was at a disadvantage, as he always must be when the big hall is occupied by echoes instead of by lovers of music, but. he did his part in hie usual capable fashion. The programme consisted chiefly of numbers that Mr. Page long ago made familiar to the people who alt entl bt» recitals. He opened with Handel s Concerto in D Minor (No. 10), as arranged for the organ alone by Hie late M. A. Musette and “Solitude” was followed by the solemn and stately “Elegio" (Calussman Then camo Debussy s pleasantly tuneful Andante from the String Quartet, and tho first part of Hie programme was completed by an rendering of the Choral No. 2 in B Minor (Cesar Franck). After the interval the organist played the third movement from “Schoneraztide,” the orchestral symphony bv Hinwky-Kors-akcff. This rich composition. based on Hie tales of the Arabian Nights,” has been a popular feature of a good many of the city organist’s recitals, and its charm is not dimmed by repetition. In conclusion. Mr. Page played- an interesting, unpublished “Song of Triumph’’ (Hugo Anson). Tho composer has sought to depict the breaking of clouds and the appearance of sunshine and happiness, and he has achieved a considerable amount of success.
