RUGBY FOOTBALL

WELLINGTON UNION MEETING OF MANAGEMENT COMMITTEE The Management Committee of the Wellington Rugby Union met last night. Mr. J. Prendeville presided, and the other members present were: —Messrs. E. ferry, F. Laws, A. Griffiths, W. J. Hardhnm, E. 11. Ward, G. Jackson, H. M'Leod, H. Buck, and N. Millard. The secretary was instructed to obtain quotations for the work of laying asphalt along the front of the grandstand at Athletic Park. A letter was received from the Berhampore Club recommending’ Mr. J. Par- . ker for the position of selector of the junior representative team. —The secretary was instructed to file the letter for reference later. The Athletic Club notified the union that three members of the senior team had been injured while playing against Marist Brothers at Lyall Bay on April 23. Notification that two players had been injured in the senior match, Berhampore v. Petone, was received from the Berhamporo Club. C. G. Chapman, who 'had played the League code for a time, asked for reinstatement as a Rugby player. He stated that ho had never received any money for playing, and had nob signed a League form. —The meeting decided to pass on the application to the New Zealand Rugby Union with a favourable recommendation.

Athletic sought permission to play in the fifth-class team a boy who had reached the age of 17 on March 31— The meeting resolved to notify the club that it could do nothing in the mutter: the rules were clear. A donation of £2 2s. was received from Mr. A. F. Wiren (one of the union’s vice-presidents).

Complimentary tickets, it was decided, should be sent to chairmen of unions.in the Wellington district.

Mr. L. W. Ludwig suggested in a letter to the union that a results board, showing the state of the scores, should bo provided at Athletic Park. He believed that it would stimulate interest in the play, particularly the interest of ladies, who might not be too familiar with the game. The matter was referred to the Grounds Committee for report. The secretary of the Eastbourne Club confirmed by letter his verbal entry of a fifth-class team. Ho stated that the entry of a fourth-class and a seventhclass team remained to 'be settled on Thursday. He also wrote that in the opinion of the club the Williams Park ground would be suitable if it could be obtained. The club jersey was green, with a four-inch gold band round the middle. A member: "Another injustice to Ireland!’’ (Laughter.)

An application from the Public Service College Club for affiliation was granted. The secretary of the new club stated that it would be able to enter only a sixth-claw team this season.. Mr. Griffiths advocated the setting up of a sub-committee to follow' junior football and'study its needs. He thought that men at present following the junior game should be appointed and requested to report to the Management Comfnittee. "We know what goes on in senior football, but we do not know all that goes on in junior football,” he said.

“The trouble would be to define the scope of the committee’s work,” the chairman suggested. He thought that the proposal should be considered at the meeting between the union chairman and secretary and the club captains and secretaries on May 6. Mr. Prendeville’e suggestion was adoptee!, .and consideration of the question raised by Mr. Griffiths was postponed accordingly. Mention was made of the difficulty experienced in obtaining referees. It was considered that this matter should also be discussed by the meeting of club secretaries and captains. FIXTURES FOR SATURDAY. Senior. Poneke v. Athletic, Athletic Park, 3 p.m., IL T. Bailey.
