A Magisterial inquiry into tho case of n. 11. Thompson, who suffered imprisonment white a member of the Expeditionary Force, has been authorised hv tho Government. This case has already received a groat deal of attention, and was the subject of investigation last year by a Parliamentary committee, which recommended for favourable consideration Thompson’s petition for inquiry and compensation. A court-mnr-tiwl sentenced Thompson to 112 days’ imprisonment for having stated in camp that a medical officer w'ho examined him was drunk nt. the time. Subsequent events gave ground for belief that- he hnd been unjustly convicted, nnd he was released after he had served 93 days’ detention. The medical officer concerned was proved in Court to have been an habitual drunkard. Legislation I<> enable n Commission of Inquiry to investigate the decision of a court-niar'.’ial was passed' by Parliament last session,.
