Association was concluded today, when stud and flock Romney ranis were offered. There was again a good attendance. While the demand lusted, comparatively few sheep were passed in, the tendency of the market being reflected rather in low prices than in the number of sheep failing to elicit bids. Wellwoolled sheep, whose value last year ranged from 20gns. to 30gns., were sold to-day for four, five, and eight guineas. When the selling of flocks was resumed late in the afternoon, the demand appeared to have been satisfied, for pen after pen of fir.ely-woolled and constitutioned animals were raced through the ring, no bids being registered, where last year there woud have been spirited competition. However, it was announced that practically all of the sheep passed in during the morning had afterwards been sold privately. Twenty-one pens of stud rams were entered, two of which were not brought forward. Though a number of animals were passed in, it was generally because the bidding had failed to reach the reserves. Charles Wagland, of Willowbank, Masterton, secured the top price of 47gns. for a one-shear ram, purchased by Paul Hunter, of Hawke’s Bay. A bid of Signs, was refused for another of Mr. Wagland’s rams. The second highest price was 46gns. for a oneshear, bred by William Perry and Son, and bought by Mr. Snaddon. An Eglinton ram went to H. A. Bunny for 45gns. The lowest bid accepted was Bgns. Following are some of the prices paid;—Account, of Charles Wagland: 25sms., 20gns. On account of W. Perry and Son: 27gns., 19gns. E. Eglinton: 21gns. William Rayner: 2figns., 22gns., 20gns., 14gns.. 12gns., lOgns. James Knight: 43gns., 12gns. A. and J. Gray: 14gns., llgns., lOgns. W. F. Jacob: 17gns. R. and F. Gray: 20a ns. W. H. Buick: llgna. There was a very large entry of flock ranis. Ono hundred and thirty-one pons were entered, though all of thess were not offered. The morning sale was by far the best for prices. When flocks were brought on again in the afternoon the demand quickly eased off, and no bids were forthcoming for sheep which would have, brought up to lOgns. in the morning. The prices ranged from 23gns., paid by Percy Bros, for a Daysh one-shear ram, down to one guinea, the bid accepted for a line of twenty very light-woolled sheep bred by E. V. Riddiford. The first lot sold was the first prize pen in connection with the show. This was bought from David Smith by J. W. Buchanan for 9igne. The second prize pen, on account of GF-. Allan, was passed in, 7igns. being the highest bid. Quinton Donald’s third prize lot were purchased bv William Rayner for lOgns. CANTERBURY PRODUCE MARKETS By Telegraph—Press Association.
