The Prime Minister (Mr. Massey) is expected back in Wellington from the 'South Island on Sunday. The Minister of Labour (Mr. Anderson) has cancelled, his intended visit to Southland, and is remaining in Wellington for the present.

The Minister of Education, the Hon. C. J. Parr, arrived in Invercargill last night, and was the ch'ief speaker nt the presentation of prizes at the Technical College#—Press Assn.

Mr. P. R. Wallace, who has been on a business visit to the south, returned yesterday.

At |the annual /meeting of Messrs. Ellis and Manton, Ltd., held on February 15, Mr. Douglas G. M'Cnul, whose connection with, the firm extends over a period of twenty years, was appointed to a seat on the directorate. Mr. W. Newton (Conciliation Commissioner), who has been engaged on official business in the Hawke's Bay district, returned to Wellington last night.

Air. G. W. Smith, of the Wairoa branch of the Bank of New Zealand, will succeed Mr. A. J. Dixon as manager of the branch at Marton. Mr. Smith was some years ago in flic bank at Bulls. Air. Dixon has been transferred to Napier.

Captain H. C. Cotton, who- recently resigned from the post of Secretary of Native Affairs in the, Samooan Administration. arrived at Auckland this week. Captain Cotton, who has been in Samoa practically continuously since tho advance guard of the Expeditionary Force landed there in 1914, has held various eificas under the military and civil administrations. He has now finally severed his connection with the islands, and will fake a holiday before making any further plans.
