B GRADE BAND CONTEST

RESULTS AT DANNEVIRKE.

At the B Grade. Bund Contest last night, the following were the results: —

B Flat Cornet Solo.—A. Berryman (Palmerston North), 92 points, 1; H. Osborne (Dannevirke), 90 points, 2. Trombone Trio—Palmerston North, 96 pointe, 1; Hamilton, 95, 2; Hastings, 94, 3; Marton, 93, 4. 11 Flat Soprano Cornet Solo.—AV. L. Francis, Palmerston North, 97 points, 1; Harding, Masterton, 96 points, 2; L. Simonson, Hastings, 94 points, 3. The contest was continued to-day, the roilitaiy and two-step competition being decided in the afternoon in the presence of a big crowd of spectators. Following is tho result:—Marton, 251 J points, 1; Dannevirke, 251] pointe, 2; Palmerston North, 24G1 points, 3: Hamilton, 2451 points 4; Temperance Guards, Auekland--237) points, 5; Hastings, 235? points, 6; Auckland Defence, 227) points, 7.

NORTH ISLAND BRASS BANDS ASSOCIATION.

At the annual meeting of the North Island Brass Bands’ Association, thanks were expressed to Dannevirke for taking up the running of the contest at Such short notice. Twenty-five bands are now affiliated. The balance-sheet showed a credit of A6l 19s. 3d. Tho election of officers resulted as fol-loW3-.-President, Mr. R. L. Cohen; vicepresidents about 40 in number, including Sir George Hunter, ALP., Messre. M’Nicol, M.P., and G. L Anderson (Mayor of Dannevirke); treasurer, Mr. J. J. Meule (Wanganui); secretary, Mr. F G. Seddon (Wanganui); executive, Sergeant-Major Anderson (Wanganui) Messrs. AVanshorough (Marton), Herd (Wellington), Jupp (AVellingfon), Holben (Palmerston North). Irussell (,AA anganui), AVilliamson (Auckland), M'Connell (Napier), C. Humphries (AVanganui), Catteloy (New Plymouth). Applications were received from New Plymouth, AVellington, Whangarei, and A lickland for the next, contest. A ballot between Wellington and Auckland resulted in AVellington being chosen. The advisability of holding one contest alternately in the North and South Islands was left to the executive discuss and confer with the South Island Association.
