Great interest was displayed to-day in a cricket, match commenced on the sports ground between the visiting Australians and a Afanawatu eleven. The weather was glorious, and the attendance was well over 1000. Afanawatu batted first, and contrary to the general expectation inndo a very d’eferriiined stand. They were dismissed for 172 rwns. T’jeir flatting was not strong, flut their display of fielding later in the day eclipsed that of the Australians. By Telegraph—Preus Association Gisborne, February 15. The Hawke Cup match was continued to-day, and resulted in an unexpected victory for Wairarapa, who beat Poverty Bay by two wickets. Wairarapa continued the first innings, .and made 116. Tovertv Bay’s second innings realised 56. Drake'(lB)'was the only double-figure scorer.
