jjy Telccrsuh'-Press Association. Christchurch, January 17. A lawn tennis match, New South Wales v. Canterbury, was commenced to-day in fine weather. The courts were a trifle heavy owing to the rain of the previous day. Of the seven singles match.es played, the visitors won six while of the three doubles concluded, New South Wales won two. Play, generally speaking, was of a high standard. Results: Marsh beat Aitken, 2—6, 6—4, 6—.; I’. Peach lost to Goss, 6 —7, 3—G; Watt beat Quill, 6—4, 7—5; Henderson beat Wilding, 7—5, 6 —2. Doubles—Peach Bros, beat Goss :nd Greenwood, 6—4, 6 —3; Marsh and Watt lost to Aitken and Wilding, 13—11, 4—6, 6—4; Mash and Watt beat Goss and Greenwood, 9 —7. 6—2.
