CARGO OF rSEAITCALS LOST. By Telegrapn—Press Association. Auckland, January 10. While crossing the North Atlantic from Liverpool to Newport News the M r.mtapu. which arrived at Auckland early this morning, lost the whole of her deckcargo composed of phosphorus, sulphuric acid, and other chemicals Shortly after leaving Liverpool heavy seas were encountered, and a portion of the deck cargo was washed onboard. In another gale the phosphorous ignited, probably through concussion caused by the seas, and set fire to the ii mninder of the cargo, which had to be jettisoned. No damage was done beyond this, and Newport News was reached without further mishap.
