BRITAIN'S FOOD.
INCREASED PRODUCTION NECESSARY i STIRRING APPEAL BY THE PREMIER By Telegrmh-Pron Acsod&tlon-OorxrlzM (Rec. November 16, 8 p.m.) London, November 18. Mr. Uoyd George,, in the House of Commons, during the Agricultural Bill debate, made a stirring appeal for morn food production. "When the harvests are good, Britain," he said, "only produces a quarter of the wheat required. This is a temptation to foreign enemies to attack us by adopting a means by which wo should bo starved. Moreover, there is the question of national health. Whereas fifty years ago one-third of tho population wero employed on the land, only one-ninth were so employed in ID 1-1. Tho soil of Britain is infinitely richer than that of Germany, Denmark, or Italy. Our food supplies must bo greatly increased on the linos suggested by the Selbourno committee, report."—Aus.N.Z.
