RAILWAY MEN'S PAY
: -♦- ARREARS TO BE PAID ON TUESDAY The Amalgamated Society of Railway Servants and the Railway Officers' Institute have been-notified that the increased • pay and bonus, together, witli arrears', will .be paid next Tuesday. No such notification . ha? been received by the locomotive men, who have not yet notified the Government of their acceptance of the.-new' terms and.conditions.
Some anxiety is being displayed in" connection with the attitude of members of-the' New Zealand Locomotive Enginedrivers, Firemen, and Cleaners' Association* towards the iiew conditions iixorl ■by the independent tribunal which considered the position after the strike. A ballot has been taken .-throughout NewZealand, and it is freely stated that in some centres an nttitude distinctly hostile to the acceptance of the proposals has been in evidence. It.is considered quite .likely" that the. terms will be rejected, thus re-opening -the whole trouble.. The, result of the ballot is not yet: available,, and . will not bo known until after a meeting of the Grand Council of. the.E.I'.C.A., which,will be held in Wellington on Monday. ;
