LONGBURN SCHOOL
NEW BUILDING KEQUIEED.
A request for the erection of. a new scliool at Longburn was placed before the Minister of Education (Mr. Parr) by a deputation yest?rdny. The- present school is over fifty, years old, and it is reported now to be. in Bucit a bad condition as to be 'beyond repair. The local people have been tureaKucirg to withdraw their children from the school. Mr. J. A. Nash, M.P... Mr. J. Barr, and .Mr. E. Tanner stated, the case on behalf of the district. Mr. l'arr, in reply, said he recognised that the Longburn School Committee had been particularly active in lmproving the scliool and the grounds, It deserved the attention of the Department. The old schools, of which unfortunately there were hundreds, were a most uiincult problem to handle. Obviously new districts where there were no^ echoes must, be attended to first. The-old schools must receive, attention in order ot urgencv. The Department's programme wan to remodel and modernise them wherever they were sound enough.
