The objeot of tho Police Offences Amendment Bill, of which Mr. C. E. Stathani (Dunodin Central) is the author, is to stop live pigeon shooting matches. In tho Police Offences Act there aro certain acts of cruelty wbirh are declared punishable by a'fino of .£2O or two months' imprisonment. Mr. Statham's Bill proposes to add to ■ these acts of crnolty this business of livo pigeon shootinjr. Mr. Statham moved the second rending of his Bill in tho House lust night. He spoke only a few sentences to the motion, explaining- Hint his only purpose was to put down a very cruel practice, which ho would not admit deserved to be called a snort at all. The second readme was agreed to with, out debate.
