BURNSIDE STOCK SALE

By Telegraph- -Press Association. Dunedin, August 11. There were fair supplies in all departments at the Burnside stock sales to-ilay with tho exception of pigs, which were in short supply. The latter sold at another advance on late high prices. Sheep values were a good deal easier, and good cattle were sold at prices very satisfactory to vendors. Tho decline in sheep prices was due to the fact that a large proportion of habitual buyers were absent at' the Grand National Meeting in Christehurch.

j Fat Cattle.—A medium yarding, a total of 475 head being offered. The quality oil the whole was not /tip to the usual i standard. Competition ( was good tJhroughj out the sale, and prices .were, well up to late rates. Prime bullocks realised to .£32, heavy from £24 ss. to £27, medium j319 7e. Gd. to =£22, light and unfinished Borts .£l4 upwards, 'l'rime heifers realised from ,£l7 10s. to .£2l, medium £U 10s. to £16 10s., light and aged from £11 upwards. Storo Cattle.—A large yarding was offered, tho quality of which was very inferior, comprising mostly young cattle in backward condition. For this class competition was slack, and a reduction in values took place. For the smaller number of animals offered, which showed breeding and wero in forward condition, competition was good. Sheop—A good yarding of fair quality, « total of 3164 head being offered for sale. Competition was restricted to a few buyers; and prices suffered in consequence, values being fully 3s. 6d. a head below last week's rate, although the last sale of the day firmed up on earlier sales. Heavy-weight wethers realised from.,s3s. 6d. to 60s. Gd., medium 435. to 51s. 9d., light and unfinislied sorts from 335. upwards. Prime ewes realised from 41s. to 4(is. 3d., medium 355. to 405., light and aged from 28s. upwards. Lambs.—A very small yarding of fair quality, numbering 173 head. Competition was good, and nriees were about equal to late rates, buftihers' lambs selling from 255. to 355. 6d. per head. Pigs.—A small yarding, the number being insufficient for requirements competition was very keen. A clear sale resulted. Best baconers realised from Is. Id. to Is. 2d. per lb, and best porkers from Is. 2d. to Is, 3d. per lb..
