MILK ACCOUNTS
HOW THE COMPANIES COLLECT,
The controversy '.vhleii has been In ought about by Mr. Henry Bodley, who controls the Wellington North block of the c.ty, putting forward a claim to charge commission on milk accounts if the samn are paid into an agency, lias revived interest m the question of collecting such accounts in Wellington. The companies controlling No;. 2, 3 and 4 blocks have not taken such action as Mr. Bodlev litis 6een fit. (0 take. In the case of No. 2 district, controlled by the City Milk Supply Co., the accounts are collected weekly. fhey are made out on Friday, and customers aro given till the following Tuesday to pay. If thev are not paid then, the milk supply is' cut off. Mr. Cole, the managing director, savs that at first his company was accused of being a little hard, but now clients have become used to the system there is little or no trouble, tna company's representative calls every week at the door for payment. Mr. Cole : still holds that the coupon system, which ' would do away with all book-keeping, i was the best that had been put forward for the payment for milk. . I In the case of the Wellington Milk ; Vendors' Association. Ltd.. which controls the whole of Wellington South, Island Bav, Lvall Bay, kilbirnie, land llat'aitai " (SOflfl customers in all), no trouble has been experienced over the weekly collection of the accounts. Tho company does not collect at the door (as in the cose of tho City Milk Supply), but has, at prewm, ton depots, conveniently placed, wlioro customers have to pay their accounts— slrictlv wcoklv. At present the company is instituting a slight change, by allowing certain of its men to take over subdistricts. It 'is' thought that this will not interfere materially with, the system of collecting accounts; indeed, it will tend to increase the number of depots, and so make it more convenient for the people to pay their accounts.
