Slowcoach, who has contracted strangles, and Ormesby were tho defections from tho National Steeplechase. In the birdcago Lochella, and Coalition had tho most Ad* mirers, and the pair stripped extra well. Lochella was a good favourite, with Crib second choice. At the start wainiai and San Sebastian led, but at Cuttß's Guanaco ran to the front, and with San Sebrwtiarr , he led down the back. The sod wall proved fatal to Loehella's chances as he bumped his rider oft. Passing the stand tho secoud time, the order was Guanaco, OaKleigh, Coalition, and Crib. Down the back the firsff-mcntioned trio were together, but when they jumped the kennels double Oakleigh and Guanaco gained grounrf. Coalition joined Guanaco at the last fence, . and in tho run home he beat him easily. Oakleigh was third, and then came Crih. Wainiai, and Ran Sebastian. Master Strownn ran off. The winner had done a great preparation. He was one of the fittest horses seen out. Waimai failed to say. and after a faulty jump at the second last fcnco spoilt Oakleigh'H chances. Hurry Up and Warlike were tlie only defections from the Winter Cup. Will 0»K----land and Gold Kip were the _ public fancies. The former Rot caught in the tupej and Gold Kip could not go the pace set by Kilioweti, who began smartly anil Jea all the way. Keatherspiitr was always in second place, but though lie made a Bit« ellort he could not reach Killowen, who won by a length. Dainty Step was the same distance away, and then came Royal Star, Sir Fanciful, and Gold Kip. AUSTRALIAN STEEPLECHASE. (Rec. August 10, 11.5 p.m.) Melbourne, August 10.
