Mr. T. Shatter Weston, solicitor, and Mrs. Weston, who liavo been touring in Japan, returned to Wellington from byu- ' ney by tho Manuka, yesterday. Major Kentish arrived in Wellington by the Manuka from Sydney yesterday. The dea.th occurred on Sunday last of Mr. John Hicks, ft councillor, and a highly-respited resident of tile borough Miramar. About seven weeks ago the late Mr. Hicks .broke a leg, and was admitted to the Wellington Hospital for medical attention. Tho death of Mr. John Welsbv, C.E., of 18 Marion Street,, took place suddenly at an early hour yesterday morning. Tho late Mr. Welshy was about as usual on Monday, but was overcome with n sudden seizure in tho evening, from which ho did not recover. Mr. Weleby was born in Chester G!) years ago, and was tho elder surviving son of tho late Mr. Thomas Welsby of that city. Ho was a civil engineer by profession, and was for fourteen years engineering• instructor at tho Wellington Technical College. Ho leaves a widow, three eons, and four daughtere. Tho interment will' be private. Mr. A. Smith hns been appointed by the Wellington Presbytery to fill the vacancy 011 tho Management Board of Scots College.
