AN IDLE PORT
; WATERSIDERS GO HOME YESTERDAY. "'' No work was done on the wharves yesterday by the watersidors, and as a result numerous vessels have been held up. The majority of ■ the coastal boats are sailing a day late, while several of the overseas steamers in port have been 'similarly delayed. ' It is the usual custom for tbe employers to make calls for labour at 8 a.m., biit owing to the heavy rain this was not done yesterday morning. By a few minutes past nine the weather had cleared,' ■nnd-a call for labour was made, but tho waterside workers had gone home. Another call was made at 1 p.m., but with■out any result. It is understood that tho watersiders will return to work this morning. Union officials- had no statement to make yes"terday.
