A quiet wedding was celebrated at St.Mark's Church oa July 22, when Mies Nora M. Atkinson, youngest daughter of Mrs. W. H. Atkinson, of Wanganui, was married to Mr. Eric W. Clarksou, eldest Ron of Mr. and Mrs. J. P. Clarkson, of Blenheim. Tho bride was given away by a, very old family friend, Mr. Lloyd Jones, of Wanganui, Miss -Dorothy Pegden, of Palmcrsion North, and litte Miss Esther Goss, of Wanganui, attending as bridesmaids. . Mr. Norman Baitholoniew, of Fcilding, iictcd as best man. After the ceremony relatives and friends of the. bride and bridegroom wero received at tho Barn Toa Rooms, where a very enjoyablo afternoon was spent, Mr. and' Mrs. Clarkson later leaving by tho Moeraki for their future home in Sydney.

Mrs. H. H. lSeelham, Brancepeth. (Maslerton) and Mrs. Edmunds .(Auckland) have returned to tho Waiivuana after spending some days in Wellington. x

Miss Massey is visiting Christchurch. On Saturday evening a successful social and dance was held under the auspices of the Church of England Young Men's Club in St. Augustine's Hall, Petono. On TEursday last an evening was given by the etaflt and patients of tho military hospital to Miss Kwen, who has for some time boon driving tiv Rml Cross car at Trentbam Camp. Tho entertainment was! arranged 'by tho Red Cross staff, the Y.M.C.A.,. and tho Salvation Army. Corporal Briggs, on behalf of the patients, presented Miss Ewen with a handsome leather suit case, with solid silver fittings, as a token of gratitude for voluntary services extending over foiir years.

Another of tho early settlers of Wellington _ passed away at her residence, Rawhlti Terrace, Kelburn, on Saturday evening in her seventy-sixth year, in the .person of Mrs. C. A. Widdop, relict of the lato William Widdop.. Mrs. Widdop, who was born in Wellington, was the second daughter of- tho late Mr and Mrs. D. Kinniburgh, who wero among the pioneer settlers of Wellington. _ Mrs. Widdop leaves a {iwn-nn family of three sons and two daughter*!, namely, Messrs. J.' E. Widdop and F. P. Widdop. of Welliimton. and. 11. A. Widdop, of Sydney, Mrs. A; M.' Shortridge, of London and Miss Widdop, of Wellington.

The following resolution, passed at a recent meeting of the Wellington Women's National Council Mid forwarded to the City Council, was brought before Inst night's meoting of the Wellington ' Women Teachers' Association: "That in order to afford some relief from the high cost of living this association urges the Wellington City Council to establish as 6oon as possible a well_ organised system of municipal distribution of fish, fruit, .and vegetables." The resolution was passed unanimously by the meeting.

A surprise visit was paid by about 20 pupils of St. Catherine and St. James's combined schools to the ward for paralysed children in the Public Hospital last Saturday afternoon. The visitors took with them. large parcels of toys and also gave a cheerful programme of songs . and recitations, ' which greatly cheered the invalided children in the ward. The following girls took part in the programme:—Fay Smyth, M. Young, H. nnd B. Saunders,' E, Clapshaw, J. M'Lav, Thelma Harris, TC. Brycnton, Alec Blake,' Olga GilberirJß.' Bowling, R. and L.. Lubrnnslii, and A. Loney took parcels of toys. The visitors and the visited spent a very happy afternoon together.

The monthly meeting of the Royal New -Zealand Society for the Health of Women and Children, was held in the.Plunket Rooms last week. There were present: Mesdames Massey (in the chair), M'Vicar, Tythe-Brown, Gibbs, Anderson, Corrigan, Burd, Cook, Bethune, Tripe, W. Luke, Paris, Lady Stout, Misses Barnett and - Kirkealdie. Tho maintenance for the month amounted to i 92 13s. 2d. R.S.A. Ball. -A meeting of the «ommittee that is ar. ranging for tho annual ball of the Re-turned-Soldiers' Association on bentcmber 17 was held at the Returned Soldiers Clti'h yesterday afternoon. In the absence,, during the earlier narl of the meeting,, of Mr. Perry (president), Mr. Wilson occupied the chair.
