FISHING INDUSTRY
INQUIRIES AT BAY OF PLENTY. By Telegraph—Press Association. Tauranga, August 9. Messrs. Ayson (Chief Inspector of Fisheries) and A. Petersen (Inspector of Fisheries for Hawke's Bay District) arrived here on Saturday night from Opotiki and Whnkatano, to continue an inquiry info the fishing conditions in the Bay of Plenty. Evidence was takeu hero this morning from local fishermen, who complained that trawlers were frequently inside the limits. The evidence abo showed that fish during tho last year or two were very muqh scarcer than in former ywirs, and this was. attributed to the operations of the trawlers. Both gentlemen leave for Auckland to-morrow, and take further ovidenco there from those •interested in trawling.
