The sugar workers' dispute has assum'erl a moro serious aspect as a result of the failure to achieve a settlement through tho medium of tho Conciliation Council. Members of the union have given tho oniployers notice that unless the dispute is settled on the basis of the union's original demands they will cease operations at midnight on August U. The demands referred to were for a 44-hour week, an all-round increase of £\ a week and better working conditions. The demand for an additional pound u week was reduced by half during tho conciliation proceedings, but the best offer mado by the employers failed to reach tho reduced sum by 4s.
