PICTON-WELLINGTON FERRY

DAILY SAILINGS WANTED,

(From Our Special Correspondent.) Picton, August 5. Picton, like the rest of Marlborough, is concerned about the suggested nijlit hailing from Wellington in the proposed new service across the Strait. A special meeting of the Picton Borough Council was held yesterday to consider the matter, when it was resolved "that the Picton Borough Council favour a 'daylight service on the Wellington-Picton nin. and (lint the present Wollinglon-J'iclon-Nelson service continue iu addition to the new service." In carrying this motion unanimously, councillors stressed the fao 1 that the Union Company had promised an improved service, for which higher fares were to be charged. Unless this was to be a daily service it would bo little better than the present tri-weokly service. In addition, it was desirable to have sonic sort of communication by sea with Nolson. Tho Picton and Blenheim Chambers of Commerce ore to meet shortly to consider a plan of seeking the support of the Wellington Chamber of Commerce in this matter.
