EASTERN SUBURBS CITIZENS' LEAGUE

At a meeting of delegates held on Monday representatives from all the Eastern Suburbs Associations were present.*- The draft set of rules which were drawn up at tho previous meeting was discussed,- and after slight alterations was confirmed. The question of workers' tickets was freely discussed, «nd it was unanimously decided that the City Council should be approached and urged to make workers tickets available to passengers travelling to work up to 8.30 a.m. instead of 7.30 as at present. If thiß is not possible then the league considers'the tickets should be abolished altogether. • In connection with the proposed city loan, the council is to. be urged that in voting on the projected loan, ratepayers have the privilege of voting for all or any scclion of tho loan. 'In reference to the suggestion that the leaguo should 'start a movement for atrsmway board to bo appointed by ratepayers in lieu of the present method of management, it was decided to refer the.matter to each' individual association for consideration. The question of telephone charges, moro especially in reference to the increased charges just announced, waa brought up,. and the league decided to lodg6 an emphatic protest against the unfair treatment being meted out to long-distance subscribers In Kilbirnie, Lyall Bay and Jijra-, mar Borough. It waa decided to wait upon the telephone engineer and also to communicate with the member for the district putting the matter before him for his support. The hope was expressed that the matter will not be allowed to rest until some redress is obtained from tho Department. Officers of the league for the ensuing yoar were appointed as follow President, Mr. A. C. Blake; vice-presidents, Messrs. W. James Gaudin and A. G. Jorgensen; committee, Messrs. W, Burbidge, A. W. Parton, lr. G; Chisliolm, and T. M. Bonovan; hon, secretary and treasurer, Mr. H. W. Pilcher; hon. auditor, Mr. J. h. Arciis. The members of the leaguo consist of tlie , municipal associations on Ihe eastern side of Mt. Victoria, viz,. l Hataitai, Kilbirnie, Lyall Bay. Melrose, Roscneath, and Srotoun. Each association sends throe delegates to represent them on the league.
