SETTLEMENT OF DISPUTE.
Mr. P. Hally, who presided at the special conference held to consider I lie demands made by the Merchant. Service Guild upon the shipping companies trading on the coast out of Wellington, has boon able to briii(?. about a complete (settlement of the dispute. His award fixed the rates of pay asfollow:—Masters, .£35 (previously ,£,10); chief officers. ,£2G [.£24) r second officers, .£22 (.£2O). There is a special provision for the steamer Calm. As regards hours, it was decided thatf all time worked in excess of 10 hours per day in vessels "where two mates were employed, and GO hours per wcelt where only one male wis employed, should be paid for as overtime at the rato of 3s. per hour. This clause will not apply to masters. The latter were granted an annual holiday of 21 days, while mate? were given an annual holiday of 14 days.
