A well-known Wairarapn resident, Mrfl. M. A. Daysh, died at the Bowen Street Hospital on Thursday. The deceased wii9 the wife of Mr. Henry Daysh, of Maryborough, daughter' of t Mr. and Mrs, Davey, of Cornwall, and sister to Mr. T. H. Davey, ex-M.P.,. of Christchurch, Mrs. Murdoch Taylor,- of i'eatherston, and Mrs. Frank Warnock, of Napier. Her family consisted of a son, now in New 'York,,-Mrs. Campbell Smith, < of Martinborough, and Mrs. Pringle Davey, of Palnierston North. The deceased lady was well known in the Hutt Valley, Wairarapa, and Hie Forty-mile Bush. During the War she took an enthusiastic part in patriotic'work and lias been identified with the Anglican Church in her home town for some years.

A very successful social.and dance waa held by the Olympic Harrier and A.A. Club in the New Century Hall pn .Wednesday night. Excellent music was' supplied by. Mr. H. Whitenian,. while items wero contributed, during the evening by Miss C. Clark and Mr. K. Beajrlehole. The 6upper tables were very tastefully set out and decorated by lady supporters of the club-. ' The committee responsible for the arrangements consisted, of Messrs. F. Hodson, N. Cavwell-Cook, J. ; Piraton, and W, D. Sneddon, the two lastnamed being the M.C.'s for the evening, and Mr. E. A. Splman, the secretary.

At the monthly meeting of the Wellington Free Kindergarten' Council the usual business was transacted, and the reports from nil'the kindergartens were satisfactory. Mrs. Gill was in the chair. The council wish to thank the Kelburn Croquet Club for its donation of .£2 2 J., which was much appreciated.

On Tuesday last at Mrs. P. Isaacs's house, 254 The Terrace, Mrs. T. W. Stringer entertained about forty ladies at auction bridge. Tho {unction was in nid of tho Plunket Socicty. An enjoyable afternoon was spent, and resulted in the collection of £1 10s., which sum was handed over to Miss A. • Barnett. Four tables were set out in the drawingroojn and three in the morning-room, in which flowers in profusion were arranged, •yfruit blossoms, pink roses, pink camellias, daffodils, violet?,-etc. Afternoon tea was arranged in.the dining-room, where tho tea-table was decorated with ' pink camellias, blue cinerarias, and _ violets. The flowers were all given , by. Miss Skerrett. in aid of the- good cause', Tho play was keen at. each of the tables, and prizes were given to tho two highest 6corers.

There was. a good attendance of members of St. Allan's Sewing-. Guild at the yicarage yesterday afternoon. The'vicnr of Eastbourne, Mr. Stent, introduced the feeretarv of the ladies' branch of the Hebousing Committee of tho Anglican Boys' Homes, who. spoke on the urgent necessity of more accommodation for' boys. Ther* is always * waiting-list; ■ To proceed with , the work'money is'urgently required, The ladies present promised to assist, in one. way or another, and Eastbourne will have a stall on' October .1 Street Sales Day.. Mrs. Stent, assisted by friends, dispensed afternoon tea, and altogether a pleasant afternoon was "spent. 1 Post and Telegraph, Ball.' . The annual-ball of the Post and Telegraph Department was hold in tho Town Hall last evening, and was very successful in every way. There was a largo attendance of daiicere, and excellent arrangements had been made to secure the enjoyment of' all present. -Th decorations of the hall were very effective, and were carried out on altogether original lines Flags were used .with great profusion,. large numbers of. them having been suspended from tho ceiling, and also, draping the.-stage.tond front .of. tho galleries with - coloured streamer's at wido intervals brought low down and fastened to the corners. of the stage and to the pillars at the opposite end of the .hall.'
