MR. A. W. HOGG

RETIRES IROM EDUCATION BOARD. It was announced at tho Education Board meeting yesterday that Mr. A. W. Hogg had tendered his resignation as a member owing to failing health. The chairman (Mr. Forsyth) referred to the good service Mr. Hogg had rendered the cause of education for many years, and said it was with great regret that they heard of his retirement. He was a man of broad, generojis outlook, who had worked in tho interests not only of the country, but of t.lio city as well. Tho chairman moved that the following be placed on record';— "Mr. A. AV. Hogg was elected to the Wellington Education Board in March, 189". and has continued on tho board until the present time. In now accepting his resignation with deep regret the board records its sense of tho singleness of purpose and the untiring effort with wliich he has at all times championed the special needs of tho struggling settler. while, at the 6ame time, eager to provido suitable educational institutions for the larger contres of population. The board is of opinion that Mr. Hogg has richly earned the lasting gratitude of the community by his fine record of twenty-throa years' honorary service in the cause of education, and expresses tho fiopo tlmt Mr. Hogg may be restored to health." Mr. R, M'Callum, M.P., seconded tho motion. He said ho had known Mr. Hose for upwards of thirty years, and knew his fine character and the lofty Ideals lie . cherished. The motipn was carried. Nominations for the vacancy caused by the retirement of Mr, Hogg will closo on August 11.
