AMATEUR SWIMMING
COUNCIL OF NEW ZEALAND ASSOCIATION. By I'clcEtaDh-PrPi'S Association Christchureh, July IG. At a meeting of the Council of the New Zealand Amateur Swimming Association it was decided that Mr. H. R. Williams, tho association' 6 representative in England, should represent tho council at the international conference at Antwerp. The secretary reported that proficiency certificates had been issued ns follow:-*-Wellington, 473; Wnnganui, 354; Eawke'9 Bay, 3M; Manawatu, 256; Auckland, 168; South Auckland. 118, Otago, IOC; Canterbury. 89; South Canterbury, 77; West, land, 44. It was pointed out that tho Manawatu Centre's performance in securing fourth' , place in the first year of its existonco was a remarkable one. It was decided, after the present season, to Issue no medals to those placed second in schools' provincial championships.
