NEW CONDITIONS AGREED ON. __As the result of a conference held on May 25, complete agreement was reached in "a dispute between the Motor Garage Proprietors'' Association and the Wellington branch of the Amalgamated Society of Engineers, representing tho various skilled workers in motor garages. The agreement will be submitted to tbe next sitting of tho Arbitration Court at Wellington for conversion into an award, which again will' form the basis of an .award for the whole Dominion. Three classes of labour are recognised: Journeymen, assistants, nnd under-iato workers. Journeymen shall include turners, fitters, motor-electricians, and motor-car mechanics. A motor-electri-cian is a journeyman competent to> undertake the repair and upkeep of the whole electrical equipment of a motorcar. A motor-mechanic (for the purposes of tho award) is a journeyman who has served five years at the mclor trade in repair or construction of motorcars or motor-cycles, or in the upkeep of motor-oars or motor-cycles and plant and machinery necessary thereto.. \ > Hours of work are fixed at ii for an ordinary week's work;, eight hours on. iive, days and four on the sixth ' day. Wages for journeymen shall not be less than 2s. an hour, ' paid on an, hi-urly basis. Overtime shall bo,computed on tho flat-rate arid bonus combined. The propoitioM of assistants shall he' not more than cno to every journeyman and one to -"nth working employer. Wages of assistants shall ■be as follow: First ve,ir, 17s. per week; second' year, 225. per week; ihird yr*r, 275. per week; fourth year, ,T2s. ;.and fifth year, 425. Provision lit ?!so mods for outside work, under-rate ' workers, meal money, first-aid, shop stewards, and preference.
