QUEENSLAND PREMIER URGES ABOLITION OP OFFICE. - „ ' ■ „ London, July 13. Commenting on . the appointment of the Governor of Queensland (Sir Matthew Nathan), the Premier (Mr. Theodore} said ho had suggested to lord J™ shortly after his arrival that no iurther Governor should bo appointed for Queensland, and that the duties of the Governor of tlmt State should be .carried out by the Lieutenant-Governor. Lord ftftner stated tlmt although .1 change m the system of appointing Stale Governors for Australia was sure to come sooner or later, his opinion was that the change would not come until there had been a review bf the relations between the states and the Commonwealth, or at any rate until' the majority of the States had agreed to the change. Mr. Theodore intends to get the other State Premiere to'co-operate with a new to abolishing the office of trovernor and allowing the duties to be oarried out by the Lieutenant-Governors HP 11 recommendations of the State _ Governments.
