BRITISH EMPIRE LEAGUE

-Sir,—ln a South Australian newspaper appears an account of the formation of a branch of the British Empire League in Adelaide. The paragraph mentions that a similar branch had recently been formed in New South Wales. I understand the League was originally started in England in. 1002. Since then it has spread to Canada, South Africa, and Australia. But I cannot discover if any move has been made to form, a league in New Zealand.. I have not the nini6 and objects of the league, beyond the fact, that it is to create a more Imperial spirit and to cement more fully the bond of Empire amongst members of the British Empire, ,as opposed to the Sinn Fein, Bolshevik and I.W.W. tactics. On the one hand-it is empire building, on the other empire wrecking. There is a class of people belonging to, and moving in all society, ever and anon suffering from a vast number of imaginary grievances; naturally they are opposed to the expansion of the Empire, are opposed to the Government of tht> day, at all times, and in all parts of the Empire. Although born and living .undor the British flag, and enjoying the benefits of "free Press," free speech, trial by jury, free education, the highest standard of civilisation, and all other privileges, this class of people ore always ready to throw a stono and to assist their country's enemies. The opposing of such tactics, I take it, is the object of the British Empire League, and such being the case should receive the hearty support of every loyal Britisher. Can you, Mr. Editor, or any of your readers, advanco the cause further, by giving the aims and objects of the league and the best methods of shirting the organisation in Ijjew Zealand?— I am, etc., JOHN R, BRUNT, Hon. Secretary Canterbury Justices of the Peace Association. Cliristchurch! fTho British Empire League was formed about, twenty-three years ago' for the purpose of stimulating interest in Imperial affairs. The secretary is Mr. C. Freeman Murray; Norfolk House, Lawrence l'onntney Hill, London, E.C. 4.]
