SUBSIDIES ON SCHOOL BATHS
A MINISTERIAL PROMISE. B.v Telegraph—Press Association. Christchurch, June 18. A conference between the Canterbury Education Board and the Hon. C. J. Pan- (Minister of Education) took place this morning. The Minister promised assistance in connection with the rebuilding and renovating of several country schools. Dealing with the request that the Department's practice of subsidising school baths be continued, tho Alinister said that swimming and lifesaving should bo part of every child's education, and ho would firi'd .£1 for every .£2 found for swimming baths up to a limited amount. He promised to gjv.e careful consideration to the request for the erection of a new training college in Christchurch.
