Aubrey Ibell, for -whom Mr. H. H. ipornish appeared, had on the previous day been convicted of stealing goods to . the. value of ,£l6'.los. 'Mr. Cornish asked tho Court to deal as leniently as possible with tho prisoner, who was' not quite 13 years of age. His Honour observed that Ibell had been, twice prevkmsly convicted of theft. He would be sentenced to a year's reformative . detention. SENTENCES ELSEWHERE. • By Telegraph—Special Correspondent. Palmerston North, May 14. In tho Supremo Court at Palineiston North to-day the Chief Justice sentenced prisoners as follows:—Frances Viviaft Bracken (theft from the person), 18 months' hard labour; Robert M'Conkey (common assault), admitted to probation for twelve months on condition that h» did not enter a hotol or touch iiquor, and ordered to pay the costs of the prosecntion; Charles Anderson and Frederick ■ Satherley (theft of money from the per- <• son), the former to three years' imprisonment and tho latter to 18 months. In the case of Albert Ernest Kearns, who had pleaded guilty to bigamy, His Honour considered the prisoner of weak mind and remanded him till Tuesday in . order to see jvhat could be done with ; him. Henry Joseph Lewis, a youthful ' offender, who euid ho had broken out ol . gaol when arrested for giving a fal?o •alarm of fire during his period of pro. bation, was remanded until arrangements could be made for sending him cither to tho Invorcargill Reformatory Prison or to a training farm. A youth named Robert Henry Brockic, for stealing various sums amounting to .£133, was released on probation for four years, on condition that he paid the money stolen and tho costs of tho prosecution. Thomas . Collins, charged with stealing a bicycle, -was acquitted.
