MANAWATU NOTES
■ Owing to the cessation of train services tho annual meeting of the Manawatu Sub-Provincial District Farmers' Union, which was to have been held at Levin on Saturday, could not be held, as only nine members turned up, while the new rule provides for a quorum of.eleven. The meeting has .been postponed till May 15 at. Palmerston North.
_A motor-car accident took place on the Napier-Palnierston North road on Friday last. Mrs. W. L. Fib.herbert! was driv,nig her car from Napier, having with her Mrs. P. I. Sim, Miss' D. Fitzherbcrf, and Messrs.- J. 11. and H. Hankiiis, and was going up the TaUpau Hill, and ■on rounding a-hill the clutch became .jammed and the brakes failed to out at a dangerous spot. The motor ran back for about a hundred yards, and then went oyer n steep bank, turning over threo times and eventually bringing up against a wire fence. The passengers were thrown out, and all were more or.less bruised and shaken, the only one to suffer serious injury being Miss D. Fitzhcrbert, who had a collarbone broken. The Mr was considerably damaged, all the wheels coming off.
