PRISONERS SENTENCED

The following sentences were passed at the criminal sittings of the Supreme Court;— William Kelly, theft from the person, twelve months' reformative treatment: Frederick David Jones, forgery and theft, four years' reformative treat, meat; Leslie- Charles Thackirell, obtaining credit by fraud, theft, and false pretence, three years' reformative treatment: James Allan Gillies Patterson," forgery and uttering, was admitted to probation. OLD MAN'S CRIME. Christchurch, February 12. In the 'Supreme Court, Charles Bremble Hawes, aged G5, was sentenced to three years' imprisonment.with hard la-1 hour for indecently assaulting two girls. In the Supreme Court to-day, in the caso of Agnes Mary Roland, charged with bigamy, tho jury returned a verdict of ."not guilty—without u blemish on her character." "You are a troublesome man, and I believo a thoroughly bad man," stated Mr. Justice Herdman in passing sentence on William Nicolai Clausen, alias Johnston. Prisoner had pleaded guilty to breaking, entering and theft, and to being an incorrigible rogue in that ho escaped from prison. "This is the second timo you have escaped from gaol," said His Honour. "In the interests of tho public and tho country it is right that you 6hould go to gaol for 6ome time. You have already had a year added to ft five years' sentence for escaping from gaol. At the expiration of those six years you will commence to servo the 6entenco I now impose on you. You are sentenced to three years' hard labour on tho first charge, and a conviction will be recorded on tho second."
