ENGINEERS' STRIKE
o APPLICATION TO REREGISTER UNION.
Melbourne, February 12. The Commonwealth steamship owners have been granted a rule nisi for the cancellation of the registration of tho Institute of Marino Engineers. Mr. Justice Higgins slated that it would require a much stronger case to induce him to doregister, the union. Mr. .Hughes (Commonwealth Prime Minister) states that the proclamation forbidding outside support for tho marine ongineers who are on strike is not intended to apply to tho engineers' private banking accounts.—Press Assn. Under tho terms of the proclamation, a bank has refused an engineer permission to withdraw money from his private account.—Press Assn. FEDERAL PROCLAMATION CONDEMNED. <Reo. February 12, 10.20 p.m.) Sydney, February 12. The State Premier, Mr, Ilolman, 'severely condemns the Federal proclamation in connection with the engineers' strike. Ho says that though the striko is a hundred times wrong, irresponsible autocracy Is worse. The use of the War Precautions Act for purposes utterly unconnected with war is a most grave abuso of authority.—Press Assn.
