UK. JUDAH SIi'EKS. In his oishty-ninth year Sir. Judah! Mvcrs. head of the tinu of J. Myers and (Jo.. Ltd.. warehousemen, of Hunlor Street, passed away, not unexpectedly, yesterday morning. The lata MrMyers's long span of life embodied an Adventurous career before ho finally settled down in Wellington. He was bora in London, and enulo. actually remember being held up ns a child to witness the street uaecants in connection with tho coronation of the late Queen Victoria; At the ace of nine years ho carao out to Australia with his parent!?, who settled in .Melbourne. It was in that city ha wns married in 1856. Seven years later the irold-rush attracted him to Otago, where he had considerable experience on the soldiields. In 18GS ho went to Nelson, which promised then to become a centre of much importance, and wa6 for some vears in business there, and on the West Coast, when the latter territory was perhaps more in the public eye than it. is to-ciav. In 1870 he. camo to linsiton. and founded the business which, under his care, and with Hie able assistance of his sons, has grown in magnitude as the titv and province have progressed. He is survived by a widow, fivo sons, and four daughters. Tho sons include Mr. M. Myers (of the legal firm of Bell. Gully, Bell, and Myers), and Mcssra. John ana' Solomon Myers (of the firm), and one of the daughters is Miss Phoebe .Mvcrs, well known in local educational circles.
