MIRAMAR BOROUGH COUNCIL

This Mayor (Mr. S. M. Stone) presided over tho fortnightly meeting of the Miramar Borough Council lield last night, and there were present: Councillors E; J, Burnett, 11. Iv. Rpbortshaw, 1/. Collie, B. F. Gardiner, J. Hicks, and Mis. A. M'Vicar. A deputation from the Seatonrt and Bays' Progressive Association waited P« tho council. Mr. E. Kellow spoke on tho necessity of improving ths Kakariki track, leading from tho beach to tho Worscr Bay School. Ho stated that this track was in a very dangerous state, especially for school children. Boulders broke tho surface of the track, and these were very liablo to trip people. He suggested tiiat a hand-rail should be put up, and that tho council should tnko action to iinprovo the track generally. In reply, tho Mayor stated that a special visit had been paid to the track, and action was to bo taken. Mr. North brought forward tho necessity of improving the men's and women's bathing aheds. Tho next matter discussed was the position regarding the foreshore. Mr. P. W. Black said that h& could only deseribo it as deplorable and lamentable. The Mayor stated that lio agreed wjtli the remarks of the speaker, but owing to various causes tlie work could not be pushed forward. Mr. Fox. (borough engineer) mentioned that the labour problem had greatly hindered tho work, while the weather had also been responsibly for considerable delay. Couilcillor Collio spoke briefly in reply to the deputation. It was decided to let the Seatoun Park to the Solvation Army on January 15 and to the Congregational Sunday School on New Year's Day. A letter was received from the Departmeait of Agi'iouilturo drawing the attention of tho council to an Order-m-Coimcil which stated that the plant known as Lantana (Lantnna Comara V) had been declared a noxious weed. The progress report of ths Maiigahao Hydro-Electric Power League was read. It mentioned that the road formation to tho head works had been completed, and that the electro power plant had been ordered, but owing to delay through "red tape" and other onuses, it had not yet been received. The Wellington Corporation Tramways ■wrote with regard to extra ears on the Seatoun and Miramar lines. . The ooimcil had asked that the 20 minutes' servico cm. Sundays be extended to 7.11 p.m., and that extra cars should be run from the city to Miramar at 5.16 p.m. week days and 12.16 p.m. Saturdays. It had been decided by tho corporation to extend the twenty minutes' service on .Sundays, and that an endeavour would 1)9 made to put on extra cars early in January. An extra, car. is to be run from Lambton to Seatoun at 9.11 p.m. on Fridays only from an early date. Tho statement of overdue rates showed that for the years from 1914 to 1919 ,£478 ISs. lOd. w«s recoverable, and ,*BS Os. 2d. lmd bean written off. It was docided to erect a handrail on tho Kalcariki track. Tile dog-tax was fixed at 7s. Cd. for house dogs and 2s. Gd. for working dogs.
