CLYDE QUAY SCHOOL

BBEAKING-UP CEREMONY. Yesterday morning Hie children of the Clyde Quay School and' their parents and friends filled the Paramount Theatre on the occasion of the breaking-uj) for tlio Christmas holidays. ' . Proceedings' commenced with the singin? of. tho National Anthem, after winch Mr R. Scott (chairman of the ocliool Committee) referred' to the record of tho school during the past year, and said that the Clyde Ouay School was onc-ol the best State schools in the nonunion. (Applause.) This, was no doubt greatly due to the headmasters, and 111 tins respect the school had been very fortunate 'Recently he had attended a reunion of old hoys of tho school, and ho was very happy to see the pride winch they all took in ; tho school. lie appealed to the present girls and hoys to also take pride in their pchool. (Applause.) Mr W. E. Foster (headmaster) announced that it had .been decided' to stace a short concert. . . An action song by the infants commenced the concert, and was followed i»y a sonir, "Tho Sand Man," by the juniors. The junior boys gave a vcrv good recitation, and were hearfcilj^PP]; l ™- 0 ": This was followed by a dance, 'Tcstertlay and To-day," by (lie younger girls. This encore was followed by a danco by one of the, infants, after which one of the boys mounted tho stage, carrying a weirdlooking instrument, which ho had named _ "nit enesorek"—simply kerosene tin snelt backwards. The instrument consisted ot a Ions; picce of wood, to one end of which was fastened a kerosene tin. A single (jut was strung over the kerosene tin and fixed to the piece of wood. A bow completed the apparatus. Considering the crudity of this home-made instmnicnt, the tiines rendered were rtmarknblv well done. The senior tjirls cave a dance and a recitation, and the junior girls also recited, while a class of boys and girls '6ane two short songs. , jr r . Scott then presented tho proficiency and competency certificates won by the pupils of 'the school.
