HATAITAI FLOWER SHOW

Tho first summer show of tlio Hataitni Horticultural' Society was opened in tho Hataitai Stato School on Saturday afternoon by Dr. A. K. Newman,_ M.P. In spite of the bad season a very iino show of roses was exhibited. Among other cut flowers tho most prominent were aritirihinums, stocks, • pansies, sweet peas and carnations. There was good competition in most classes, and tho judges commented very favourably on tho high quality of tho exhibits. In opening the snow Dr. Newman congratulated tho society on the excellent display, and in tho course of his remarks mentioned that he hoped the society would givo more attention to tho cultivation' of vegetables than was usually the ease in sucli shows. Tho Mayor (Mr. J. P. Luke) and Mrs. Luko were present during the afternoon. A very fine collection of roses and sweet peas was exhibited by Mr. J. J. Korslake. The* pot- plants and cut flowers were iiidped by Mr. J. G. M'Kenzic, Director of Parks and Deserves; tho decorative sections by Miss M.
