BURSARIES FOR STUDENTS OF MINING
EXAMINATION OF MINERAL RESOURCES NEEDED. By TalceraDb—l'iwm Association Duncdin, June 4. ' A deputation representing tho School of Mines waited on the Hon. AY. D. S. Mac Donald* and urged\ that the Department of Mines should offer, say, len bursaries of .£SO with fees, for students living away from home. The deputation also suggested that better use bo made of the staff for investigating mining problems. Of tho Assistants provided, Professors Park, Waters, and Benson were able to do something regarding, rosoarch into the mining problems of the country. ■.-,., Tho Minister expressed agreement with tho deputation. Last year only one man icon a bursary. If he had not power to do what was asked, he was« prepared to ask his colleagues to vote A-liat was necessary. The country could'- well _ atford to have a thorough expert examination of the mineral resources.
