FIELD DAY AT NEWTOWN PAEK. The Wellington Boy Scou.ls held their annual field day at ...Newtown Park yesterday. The cold wind discouraged speeators, but the fcoye carried through their, sports awl ■competitions MS oo ***™**; The Commandant of the Now Zealand Forces (Mnjor-General Sir Alfred Rota) was present and took the salute at the "'Hie 1 &ts assembled at Courtenay Place and started their march to Newtown Park at 11 a.m. There were then present some .856 bow. .comprising the following groups-Wellington North, i*; Wellington South, 72; Wellington Central, 156; Hntt, 54. District Commander W Phillips commanded and was assisted" by District Commanders E. Lawson, W Mason, and G. Bell. The Scout bands from St. Paul's, Kelbuin, and Hutt provided music during the march, bcoutmastor D. M'Kenzie was marshal. The boys lunched after their arrival at the part.' Then they were paraded for the various events, and they spent ti busy afternoon. The events were physical drill and marching competitions for the Wellington Banner, an.ombu ance uompetition for the Rhodes Cup, and sigimllinK competition for a trophy presented by Mrs. MDorhouse. Points were awarded for general proficiency m the Crawford Cup competition, reams from eleven troops competed, and the rivalry was keen. The judges were as follow;_:Physical drill and marching. Captain <W. M Bell and Lieutenant J. Thompson; ambulance work, Captain Gibb; signalling Captain Pridor. . • The march past was the important event of the afternoon. The boys marched round the park with their bands and passed before the Commandant at the whiting base, in front of a flagstaff. They were halted in line on the opposite side" of the ground after passing the saluting point, and at a signal they broke ranks and ran across to General Robin in a cheering mass. After the Commandant had spoke ft few words to them they cheered him heartily.
