AUCKLAND TO WELLINGTON BY SEAPLANE
Sir,—ln your paper of to-day's issue there appears a messago from Auckland stating that the Hon. Arthur M. Myers hod started a fund to award a prize for a long-distance flight (Auckland "to Wellington) in a New Zealand-built se.v plane, to bo piloted by a Kohimarama pupil. Now, Sir, I think that Auckland should not be in front.of Wellington in this matter. Why not a fund down here and at Christchurch for those who have been through the Sockburn Flying School? I should say that tho gentlemen of both Wellington and Christchurch who are interested in nviation would be only too pleased to stimulate (he idea down here, and liot let. Auckland lead both southern towns. Longdistance flights from Wellington to Auckland, Wellington to Christchurch, thence Dunedin, and vice versa, could easily be arranged if only some sort of • remuneration could be made to the cessful aviator. To most'people Wellington does not offer very good weather and landing-placer, for aeroplanes, but one has only' to go to the Lower Hutt, and nnv amount of room can be found to land" in, and Wellington is not the only place in New Zealand for wind. Nor, Sir, if tho gentlemen of Wellington- and Christchurch will set the machinery in motiox there area number of qualified Sockburn pupils who will gladly, uphold .the prestige of both cities. Wake up, AVellington and Christchurch, and do not let tho Copper Trail winners put. another one over us! It's up to you.—l am, etc., ATJZANL January 9.
