'"■:■ A .RESERVE OF NOBLE TREES. * A' valuable piece of kauri forest has "been given to the Government as an addition to Kauri Park, in the Kahn district. The 'Government has in that district an area which is to be reserved as an example of the primeval kauri forest. In a comparatively short period of time this will, probably bo the.only remaining piece of kauri forest in the country, and it will be one of the wonders of the country( Mr. James Trounson, one of tho [pioneers of the North Auckland district, ";has made, a gift to the Government of a ;picce of forest to be added to the present reserve. He has been for.many years engaged <in the timber trade, and being .'•a- great admirer of the kauri tree and the virgin kauri forest he has presented to the Government an area of the finest' [forest remaining in the. north. The wholo .area of forest owned by Mr. Trounson in that neighbourhood is supposed to be worth from .£40,000 to .£50,000. There ara in this forest somo extremely fine specimens of the kauri tree, the like of which are not to be 6cen anywhere else in the country. >

■ • There is to be an official opening of this reserve, and the Hon. D..H. Guthrie, Minister of Lands, is leaving Wellington in a few days to attend the ceremony.
