OLD-AGE PENSIONS
AFFECTED BY SOLDIERS' ALLOTMENTS., ■,;■■,'■ The local Returned-Soldiers! Association has received,a communication from a-member respecting the stoppage of his mother's; old-age pension for the reason that the pensioner is now in. receipt of rtn allotment from her son. The' posi-tion-is said to be-that the pensioner in question was in receipt' of a pension prior to'the outbreak of war, arid when her sons' left-for the front they allotted a portion', of their pay to their mother -;■ for • use when required. . As a result of this the Pensions Dena'rtment have = notified -the lady- : in. question that her pension has been stopped. ".This.procedure is said tribe in accordance with the Acts dealing with pension?; but'it is' understood that: the. local Returned Soldiers' Association' intends t0... place the matter before the Minister, with n view to having., the. pension reviewed. The association holds the view that an old-age pension should 'riot" be: affected by an allotment from- the 6cns of the pensioner.
