CONGESTED AREAS
COUNCIL COMMITTEE MEETS. The first meeting of the committee of the City Council which 16 to make inquiry regarding the congested areas of the city and the steps that can be taken for their improvement,held .its first meeting yesterday, There were ..preant the Mayor and Councillors Wright,. Luckie, Bennett, and Shorland. . The City Engineer and the City Valnw were also in attendance. . The plans and report prepared by the City Engineer were placed before the committee yesterday, and certain proposals relating to the scheme were adopt- ' ed. The matter will be further consider, ed at another meeting of the committee to be held shortly. In the meantime the officers of the council will obtain 6uch information as will enable the'committee to bring proposals before the council at its. next meeting. The Mayor said at the conclusion of the meeting that the work was necessarily of a committee character and would be so.for some time.
