- —: —-β-r —— . A meeting was held in Carterton on Monday evening for .the purpose of forming a band. Mr. T. H. Hughes presi'ded, and the attendance of the public was not as large as the object deserved. Jfcver'thelesa those present were very enthu«iasaatic, ond a. good discussion as to ways and means ensued. Mr. C. AVoodle'y, as convener, explained that a playing membership of a full-strength band whs available. The instruments of the old band were sold to a reinforoement, and this money, approximately .fills, was held in trust by the Borough Council: Irom .quotations before the meeting for silver-plated instruments it was aeccrtained that.to equip a band (it the present tjme would cost from .£6OO to .£7OO. Hie meeting considered it inadvisable to entertain the purchase of new instruments at the present time, and es it was reported that there was a- prospect' of being able to secure a second-hand silver-plated set in the Dominion, the meeting adjourned for a weok to enable lcquiriee to be made.'
