PRESIDENT WILSON IN GENOA
SPEECH AT THE STATafi OF COLUMBUS. Genoa, January 6. President Wilson laid a wreath on the statue of Columbus. , A driving rain-, storm spoiled the. reception; nevertheless thousands greeted him, and sought to ehnke his hand.- In his speech at the statue of Columbus he said: "Being free, America desires to sho«- others how they may also ehare in tho freedom of the world.' , —Aue.-N.Z. Italian, wounded soldiers presented a memorial, statins?:— "Xour ideals-are'ours. Wβ don't want another war." A delegation of mourning Mothers' ond widows aaid:— ■ "The Americans came to Europe to free the world. Wo pray that there , will be no further 'wars." President Wilson, replied that he would make tho utmost efforts to that end; He took off his hat to prople whose spirit had not flagged, in spite of being without bread for days together.— Aus.-N.Z.
