Tile billiards in the,diner tournament last night at Alcock's rooms was of a high order, and delightful to watch. None of the players indulged in forceful tactics except when position demanded it, and 011 tho whole they favoured delicate play, with due consideration to position. Unquestion-ably,-tlio play this year is of a higher order than formerly, and it is evident that contestants have benefited by watching the work of leaders in tho game. The bout between the Ingley brothers was a good one, and produetivo of some unusually lino play. The elder of tile two is a returned soldier, and not fully recovered from the ell'ects of service, still he proved too good for his younger brother, and managed to put up 0110 of the best breaks yet seen in these contests—a faultless 78. Morse did not experience mucli difficulty in defeating ivean. As matters went rather, well with him, and his opponent was fiot at aIJ well favoured. Ilenipton proved 110 match for Burd, who is showing much better form this year than previously. Jackson was not fully extended by Hughes, who has not been sufficiently well treated by tho handicappors. 11. Ingle.v, who is on the scratch mark, defeated llolcroft by a substantial margin. Tho wiiiner -plays every variety of shot with confidence, and it'look's as if he has tho possibility of becoming 0110 of the Dominion's best players. Morse, at 179 when his opponent, Billnian, was Ici'J, managed to put in a very nice effort of 21, which gave him tile required number of points. Tho best breaks in tho evening wero: }!. Ingley, 78, 22, 30, 2.5, 3t, 2.1; J. Ingley, 22; Llillmaii, 2.1, 21; 31or.se, 21, 21'; Jackson, 21. To-night, at 7.30, the semi-finals will be played between liurd and R. Ingley and Morse and Jackson. Tho winners of theso will afterwards contest tho finals. .
