INFLUENZA IN AUCKLAND
HOSPITAL ACCOMMODATION OVERTAXED. By Telegraph—Pro9a Association. Auckland, October 16. . At a meeting of the Hospital Board, Dr. Maguire, Medical Superintendent, stated that after a brief absence from Auckland, he was surprised to learn that a number of influenza patients from the Niagara had been sent to the hospital, where thero wcro twentyeight cases. .The isolation ward was crowded. Ho had warned tho.hoard that he could not deal with more cases. Yesterday he was asked to admit another case from the Niagara, but leplied -that he could not. Mr. Coyle said he opposed tho quarantining of ships if it could be avoided, owing to the shipping shortage. It was stated by other members that the hospital accommodation was taxed tp its utmost. It was arranged to deal with the matter at a special meeting to-day. The Niagara patients in*hospital are steadily improving. Ten are suffering from slight pneumonia.
