"OUR DAY"
MESSAGE FROM HIS MAJESTY , THE KING. His Excellency Jhe Governor-Gen-eral .has' received~"tho following telegrain for publication in the Press:— ( ' "York Cottage, "Sandringham, Norfolk. . "On Ac occasion of, 'Our Day, 1918, I have much pleasure in con- * gratulating the British Red Cross Society and Order of' St. John on the magnificent work which they in conjunction have achieved during mora than four years of warfare, and in expressing the confident hope ihat their efforts may continue to receive from my people 'the financial support which ■they require. By personal observation in "the United Kingdom and on. tho Western front, 1 am convinced that the appeal of tho Joint Committee for funds is more than justified by the manner in which thoy are carrying on their .widespread and lesponsible labours in co-operation with tho medical ■ services of the Forces. In Flanders, France. Italy, and Malta, in Palestine, Macedonia, and Egypt, in Mesopotamia, and East Africa, and in Russia, _ Rumania, and Siberia, the joint societies have relieved the sufferings, healed tho sick, and saved valuable, lives for the service of the Empire in war and peace. They have also been able_ to give welcome assistance' to our Allies, and in making: provision for the siclt and wounded have not forgotten the nrisoners of war, wliofb privations they have done much to alleviate. It must he remembered that ponce, oven when declared, will not brinir a cessation of the worli of the hospitals, and indeed the demand on the resources of the Red Cross must inPvibHv continue for forno time after hostilities have ended. "Impressed as I am b'v the vast obligations which must still fall on the joint societies, I have much pleasure in contributing the sum of £10,00(1. "(Signed) GEORGE, R. 1."
